You can’t beat the views and the peaceful feeling when you tee-off at Cochrane’s Links of GlenEagles.
The course is tucked into the side of the big hill that descends into the Cochrane valley. The layout presents beautiful views as well as challenges for golfers of various levels. You’ll experience big ravines, cliffs and both river and mountain views – all from the comfort of your golf cart, because with the long walks and elevation changes it’s recommended you not walk this course.
I’ve been playing here weekly for several years, but I’m reminded of the beauty of this course every time I play.
By the time you get to the fifth hole you’ll be impressed. It’s a par 3 facing west that drops 75 feet. I hit my tee shot to the southwest and it seems as though my ball soars over the mountains.
But the par 3 16th hole is my favourite by far with its epic 130 foot drop. The tee box sits above almost everything, facing the river, and you’re wrapped by the mountains. I inhale the view and take a wild guess at which club I should hit, because the changing conditions cause me to play it differently each time.
This beautifully manicured course is kept in pristine condition. And it’s always challenging, no matter how many times I play. Though the landscape makes the course a bit intimidating, the 5 levels of tee boxes make it approachable for many levels of golfers.
The game strategy starts at the time of booking, because you can get better rates depending on the day and time you choose to play. Play Golf Calgary members can also get various discounts at this course and partner courses in Calgary. If you’re coming out from the city, or if you plan to stay and golf in the area for a few days, that’s worth checking out.
The best way to wrap up a round at GlenEagles is sitting out on the patio and enjoying a drink, a great view and great company once 18 holes are behind you.
