We’ve waited a long time for a festive event so let’s start by celebrating Cochrane Culture Days, September 11th through the 13th at specially-created venues around town.
The Cochrane Integrated Arts Society (CIAS) and Town of Cochrane Arts and Culture, with thanks to an Alberta Culture grant, have teamed up to show off our resident visual and performing artists. And you don’t have to be a karma chameleon to be part of this culture club. It’s all free.
Back to the movies
Cochrane Movie House kicks off your weekend with matinee and evening shows on Friday and two more screenings on Saturday morning of the feature film, Secret Life of Pets, with local short films shown alongside. To reserve your tickets, email firstname.lastname@example.org.
On Saturday and Sunday at the Lions Club Event Centre, Backstage will host presentations by local filmmakers as well as enlightening sessions on how to appreciate musical theatre. Afterward, wander through the impressive Sculpture Garden to see works by local and international sculptors.
Dance to the music
Check out the steady line-up of performances at three outdoor venues: Front Stage, Upstage, and Centre Stage.
Front Stage next to the Legacy Statue at Centennial Plaza will present jazz, folk, and pipe bands and a choir.
Centre Stage and Upstage will be set up in Cochrane Town Square at the east and west ends of the former Canadian Tire parking lot. Centre Stage will feature the Stoney Mini Thni Dancers and a concert band, while Upstage will showcase acoustic ensembles and dance studio demonstrations.
Visual artists from the CIAS Artist Collective will be on hand to demonstrate their craft.
Also in Cochrane Town Square, Cruise Cochrane will stage their vintage vehicles, hot rods, and muscle cars before heading out to cruise past all the performance venues.
Artist Studio Drive
Search Cochrane Culture Days on the Town of Cochrane website for a self-guided tour map to visit Cochrane’s remarkable local studios and watch artists at work on Saturday.
To keep crowd sizes-small, socially distanced, and safe, events run concurrently and multiple times throughout the weekend.
